Pokemon GO facts! Why am I so Interested Even Though I'm Not a Player?

Although I myself is not a Pokemon GO player but I'm a first generation south Asian Pokemon fan. I started watching Pokemon as soon as it started airing in cartoon network Toonami in the south Asian region. So I may not be a player but I still appreciate the effort they are making for the hard core pokemon fans like us. But at the same time I'm interested in Pokemon GO for a complete different reason. I'm not only a graphic designer but also a Student of Computer Science & Engineering. I like to think of myself as a man of science as well. Also I like to play games! From my childhood I had fascination with video games and playing inside one :v

I'm sure that many other gamers also have a similar fantasy. The most passionate gamers all think about it I bet. For that sole reason the game developers were trying to make the games as much realistic as possible. After The anime Sword Art Online (SAO) came out it became more obvious that people want there game playing experience by going inside one. You can say SAO worked as a catalyst in this era. 

So now what's needed to be done?

First the developers started to improve graphic quality, then they started applying accurate laws of physics. But that still wasn't enough. Something was definitely missing. So the developers started researching stuff. And finally they came up with something new. It's called augmented reality. Now the question is - What is Augmented Reality?

Now back to the topic.

According to Wikipedia - "Augmented reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are "augmented" by computer-generated or extracted real-world sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data."

That means augmented reality is something that does not originally exist in our reality or real world but it made to look like it's exists and happening in the real world.
It's kind of a trick to satisfy  human brain with the test of a sense of purpose.

You may ask why I'm talking all these tech stuff like a geek?
Well as I'm a tech oriented person, you may call me that. 
It doesn't matter what other people call me so I won't pay any mind.

Augmented Reality yah!

I'm talking about augmented reality because Pokemon GO is a game based on augmented reality.
Before augmented reality existed, Virtual Reality (VR) was developed which I forgot to mention earlier.

What is Virtual Reality?

Let's see what google have to say about this.

When I searched google I found this definition - "the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors."

Virtually Reality is actually close to the my theme of going inside a game and playing it from there. Because in virtual reality everything is happening virtually and human beings given artificial feelings via some form of electrical sensors. So nothing happens in the real world but people or rather their brain think it's actually happening in front them.

Augmented Reality on the other hand projects that virtual reality in the real world. People do everything in the real world but the result comes in the virtual world. It's the ultimate combination of real and virtual world.

Pokemon GO was the first augmented reality based game that was launched in such a large scale!
The developers used a pretty simple method to do that. They just implemented google maps in their game and placed pokemon in differend coordination. Now people from all over the world can go to journey just like the real pokemon trainers in the anime or in the previous virtual games.
It just somehow gives me thril to think that now we can find pokemon in the real world although we can't see them! :P
